The University of Colorado Boulder is looking at taking over the Stampede bus route that connects the main and east campuses.

The Regional Transportation District operates the weekday route that runs from 18th Street and Euclid Avenue east to the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex on Colorado Avenue, and then takes Discovery Drive and back to the main campus.

CU Boulder is proposing incorporating the Stampede route into its free Buff Bus service as a new aerospace engineering building opens on east campus in the fall. If approved, the university would take over the route on Aug. 12.

RTD’s board of directors is expected to vote on the proposed discontinuation of service at a June 18 meeting.

There will be four public meetings to discuss the proposal before RTD’s board meeting.
