It’s not often that you get to see history made.  On January 29th, Kate Williams and Jaime Lewis from DRMAC visited Panasonic to ride a newly developed Autonomous Vehicle that will eventually be utilized in public transit.

The vehicles capacity is 12 people.  Six riders can be seated and six can be standing.  However, when a wheelchair occupies the center area this capacity number is reduced.

The current vehicles do not have restraints.  The vehicle has a maximum speed of 13 miles per hour.  The vehicle starts and stops very comfortably.

This vehicle is currently operating at the Pena and 61st station off of the A-line.  I’m encouraging people to experience the new route.  AV can be picked up at curb at train station and takes you around an industrial campus.  Trip takes about 15 minutes.

This project is a pilot program.
