DRMAC Projects
The Council has determined that the following projects represent the immediate need for improvement of mobility and access in the Denver Metropolitan area. For more information, please contact us at executivedirector@drmac-co.org.
Fitzsimons/Anschutz Medical Campus Impact Study
The goal of this project is to analyze the current and near-term transportation services, activities and needs related to developing the former Fitzsimons Military Base into the dominant hospital and related medical services complex for the State of Colorado. The study will result in identifying coordination opportunities, transportation costs related to relocating these medical facilities, and how the costs of transportation can be shared or reduced.
Transportation Provider Database
In order to develop a comprehensive solution to the mobility and access issues facing individuals in the Denver Metropolitan region, a complete inventory of current transportation service must be undertaken. At present, only smaller sample plans are being considered or undertaken. Adams County, for one, has done an excellent job with their effort. But in order to serve the entire region, such a comprehensive review must be undertaken with an eye toward not only identifying every transportation provider but also maintaining that list in a manner that allows for its effective use.
This project is primarily a research project aimed at gathering information but will require continued funding to be able to sustain the list and form the foundation for a coordinated transportation service in the future.
Coordinated Call Center
This is the vision for the United We Ride program which recently launched its "One Vision: One Call" campaign. Under this effort, individuals within the Denver area would have a single phone number to call, perhaps using the 511 traveler information number already available through the Colorado Department of Transportation or as an adjunct to the city's 211 Human Services call number.
While the specific means of accomplishing this task can remain indeterminate at this time, work needs to commence to begin the process of gaining acceptance and approval from the various stakeholders to turn this vision into a reality. Funding is needed to initiate the various discussions needed to establish a framework within which such a "one stop" call center can be developed. Naturally, our effort to develop a database of transportation providers must be complete before such a project can be successful.
Getting There Guide
DRMAC remains committed to updating and distributing the Getting There Guide, a resource guide to transit services for older adults living in the metropolitan Denver area. The Getting There Guide is available in both English and Spanish. If you would like a free hard copy (or multiple copies) of the Getting There Guide for your organization or personal use, please visit the Contact Us section.
Medical Passport
A central concern among transit providers is coordinating rides to and from medical appointments. This project aims to create awareness amongst medical providers that people use alternative transportation and require flexibility.
Travel Buddy Training Project
The purpose of this project is to train human service agency volunteer to work with the elderly and disabled to use the bus system. There are many individuals using specialized transit services who could use public transit if they could acquire needed skills and overcome fear and misconceptions. The pilot project is in partnership with Special Transit to start a program at Catholic Charities and extend to other agencies upon request.
Breakfast Forums/Trainings
DRMAC provides yearly forums and trainings around various subjects, which not only provide great educational resources but networking opportunities for transportation and human service providers. If you have an idea for a topic, please contact us.
Volunteer Driver Program
DRMAC is coordinating forums and trainings for existing Volunteer Driver Programs to come together to share ideas and best practices. The intent is also to provide a forum for organizations wanting to start their own program.
