DRMAC Projects
The Council has determined that the following projects represent the immediate need for improvement of mobility and access in the Denver Metropolitan area. For more information, please contact us at executivedirector@drmac-co.org.
Transportation Provider Database
In order to develop a comprehensive solution to the mobility and access issues facing individuals in the Denver Metropolitan region, a complete inventory of current transportation service must be undertaken. At present, only smaller sample plans are being considered or undertaken. Adams County, for one, has done an excellent job with their effort. But in order to serve the entire region, such a comprehensive review must be undertaken with an eye toward not only identifying every transportation provider but also maintaining that list in a manner that allows for its effective use.
This project is primarily a research project aimed at gathering information but will require continued funding to be able to sustain the list and form the foundation for a coordinated transportation service in the future.
Coordinated Call Center
This is the vision for the United We Ride program which recently launched its "One Vision: One Call" campaign. Under this effort, individuals within the Denver area would have a single phone number to call, perhaps using the 511 traveler information number already available through the Colorado Department of Transportation or as an adjunct to the city's 211 Human Services call number.
While the specific means of accomplishing this task can remain indeterminate at this time, work needs to commence to begin the process of gaining acceptance and approval from the various stakeholders to turn this vision into a reality. Funding is needed to initiate the various discussions needed to establish a framework within which such a "one stop" call center can be developed. Naturally, our effort to develop a database of transportation providers must be complete before such a project can be successful.
DRMAC is seeking proposals from individuals or firms interested in facilitating stakeholders in developing a work plan to establish a contact center ("call center") that would serve the Denver metro area.
Transportation Coordination Symposium
On May 6th, DRMAC partnered with the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA) to bring in national, state, and regional speakers to address the topic of transportation coordination. The symposium featured speakers from the Federal Transit Administration Region 8 office, the Colorado Department of Transportation, Community Transportation Association of America, and Easter Seals Project ACTION, among others. A panel of experts highlighted examples of what communities are doing across the state. Selected presentations are now available:
Fitzsimons/Anschutz Medical Campus Impact Study
The goal of this project was to analyze the current and near-term transportation services, activities and needs related to developing the former Fitzsimons Military Base into the dominant hospital and related medical services complex for the State of Colorado. You can read the full study here.
Getting There Guide
DRMAC remains committed to updating and distributing the Getting There Guide, a resource guide to transit services for older adults living in the metropolitan Denver area. The Getting There Guide is available in both English and Spanish. If you would like a free hard copy (or multiple copies) of the Getting There Guide for your organization or personal use, please visit the Contact Us section.
Travel Training Project
DRMAC is partnering with Special Transit to offer forums on travel training options available to human service organizations. The goal is to teach organizations about three programs that can help clients become more self-sufficient by using public transportation. DRMAC will serve as a facilitator for any organizations wanting to partner to provide these resources.
Breakfast Forums/Trainings
DRMAC provides yearly forums and trainings around various subjects, which not only provide great educational resources but networking opportunities for transportation and human service providers. If you have an idea for a topic, please contact us.
Volunteer Driver Program
DRMAC is coordinating forums and trainings for existing Volunteer Driver Programs to come together to share ideas and best practices. The intent is also to provide a forum for organizations wanting to start their own program.
